Self Portrait Project: Artist’s Statement
Often, a great deal of my memories from childhood and beyond feels more like a dream or a past life to me than real experiences. The self portraiture I create as an adult is my way of connecting my present self with my old, fractional self- a familiar ghost of someone I used to be, but am no longer. I use environmental triggers to construct the connection between past and present, and give life to the otherwise invisible. Capturing these moments means I am simultaneously revisiting a foggy memory while also seeing something new for the very first time.
